My Swing Log

Decimal Hours

Decimal hours, also known as decimal time, is a way of recording time that is used by the Post Office to record swing shifts.

Decimal time consist of recording the hours in a 24-hour, military style, while recording the minutes as a fraction of an hour, from 0 to 99. For example, 8:30am would be 0850, while 5:45pm is 1775.

Wikipedia has a page that describes this format in more detail.

Decimal Hours Conversion

Mail carriers who work for the post office are required to record the start and time of their shifts in the decimal hours format. If this is you, you've probably had the experience of having to use a decimal hours chart like this one to convert the time on your phone or watch to decimal hours.

While a chart like that is useful, it can also be inconvenient.

Most carriers we talk to would prefer a way to instantly convert a clock time to decimal hours. Or even to know what the current time is in decimal hours. That's why we created My Swing Log.

How My Swing Log helps

My Swing Log is an iPhone app that does two things. First, it shows you the current clock time in the decimal hours format, so you can tell at a glance what the current decimal time is.

Second, it gives you the ability to record your swing shifts. Just tap on the "Start Swing" button when your shift starts, and tap it again when your shift ends. You can then enter your shift time on your timecard, and have a separate record on your phone.

Check out My Swing Log today for your iPhone and see how it can help take the pain out of decimal hours conversion.
